Roste? and China will jointly create industrial lasers

Holding "Shvabe" (a part of the State Corporation Rostec) and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology have signed a cooperation agreement. The parties intend to jointly develop new generation pulsed disc lasers designed for cutting metals.

In early November, specialists of a company that forms a part of the holding Shvabe (Polyus Scientific Research Institute) signed the cooperation agreement with the Huazhong University of Science and Technology as part of their visit to Wuhan, also called the "Optical Valley of China." Disk lasers, that will be developed in the course of the partnership, will find application in the automotive, engineering, aerospace and other industries. Using such lasers, specialists will be able to perform ultra-precise welding and cutting of metals, as well as drilling and removing a thin film from the surface of various materials.

"The market of lasers is growing both in Russia and in the world. At the same time, the demand for lasers used in the processing of materials demonstrates the maximum dynamics," noted Alexey Patrikeev, General Director of the holding Shvabe of the State Corporation Rostec. “I am sure that our partnership with China, aimed at creating advanced technologies, materials and components for disk lasers, will give a powerful impulse to the development of the global laser industry."

According to Laser Markets Research, the world laser market increased from 6.57 to 10.408 billion dollars in the period from 2008 to 2016. Last year, the share of lasers used in processing of materials in the global market accounted to 39%. The Russian laser market increased 6.13 times from 2008 to 2016: from $213 million to $1,304.8 million. Over this time span, the greatest growth was shown by lasers for processing materials. Last year, they accounted for 41% of the total volume of the market.

According to the signed cooperation agreement, the parties will conduct joint research to develop pulsed disk lasers with a power of up to 100 kW, as well as picosecond pulse generators with a power of up to 300 kW, that will be used in the devices for adjusting the light beam.

State Corporation Rostec is a Russian corporation established in 2007 to promote the development, production and export of high-tech industrial products for civilian and military use. It consists of more than 700 organizations, of which 11 holding companies are currently engaged in the military-industrial complex and 3 in civilian industries, also there are more than 80 direct management enterprises. Rostec's portfolio includes such well-known brands as AVTOVAZ, KAMAZ, Kalashnikov Concern, Russian Helicopters, VSMPO-AVISMA, Uralvagonzavod, etc. Rostec’s organizations are located in 60 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and supply products to the markets of more than 70 countries. Consolidated revenue of Rostec in 2016 reached 1 trillion 266 billion rubles, consolidated net profit - 88 billion rubles, and Ebitda - 268 billion rubles. In 2016, the average salary in the Corporation was 44,000 rubles. According to Rostec's strategy, the main goal of the Corporation is to ensure Russia's technological advantage in highly competitive global markets. One of Rostec's key tasks is the introduction of a new technological structure and digitization of the Russian economy.? ?
