Group of Thirty meets at IDB to discuss global economic prospects amidst financial crisis

President Luis Alberto Moreno addresses financial situation of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on Monday hosted the Group of Thirty (G30) seminar on international banking, with senior officials discussing the global economic prospects, the financial stress and the regulatory responses.

IDB president Luis Alberto Moreno spoke to the gathering on prospects for emerging markets. Moreno shared a panel with Martin Feldstein, Professor at Harvard University and President Emeritus, National Bureau of Economic Research, Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, former Minister of Finance and the Economy of Italy, and Masaaki Shirakawa, Governor, Bank of Japan.

The Group of Thirty, established in 1978, is a private, nonprofit, international body composed of very senior representatives of the private and public sectors and academia.

It aims to deepen understanding of international economic and financial issues, to explore the international repercussions of decisions taken in the public and private sectors, and to examine the choices available to market practitioners and policymakers.
